One Reported Killed In Tehran Bomb Blast

Prague, 12 June 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Iranian officials say a bomb exploded in a busy square in the east of Tehran today, killing one person and injuring at least three others.

Interior Ministry spokesman Jahanbaksh Khanjani said the explosion occurred at Imam Hossein Square. Iranian media said the explosion was heard at 8:20 pm local time.

Earlier today, at least eight people were killed and 75 wounded when a string of four bomb attacks rocked Iran's restive southwestern city of Ahvaz just days before Iran's 17 June presidential election. Eight Reported Killed In Iranian Blasts

Interior Ministry spokesman Amir-Hossein Motahar linked those blasts to ethnic unrest in April in Khuzestan, which is a
partly Arab-speaking province.

"The first reports indicate that these bombs [in Ahvaz] were hand made and they were made inside of Iran. These events are probably related to the latest disturbances in Khuzestan Province."

The Interior Ministry called those blasts a "terrorist act."
