Uruzgan Province Governor Jan Mohammad Khan says the nine elders were killed in the village of Lander, a day after security forces killed seven Taliban in an attack on a security post in the nearby village of Saiban.

Khan says the guerrillas killed the elders for their alleged cooperation with U.S. forces. Khan says that Taliban forces attacked another police post in Uruzgan today, killing four officers.

He says that at least 12 insurgents have been killed in Uruzgan fighting since yesterday.
