Afghanistan Gets Development Grant For Roads

12 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) says that it has approved a $55 million grant to rehabilitate the road network of Afghanistan.

The bank said today that the grant is intended for paving 90 kilometers of road between the towns of Qaisar and Bala Murghab. This is the last unpaved section of the national primary roads.

The bank says that the region is remote and subjected to extreme weather conditions. The ADB says that an improved road will help bring aid and needed basic social services to one of the region's least developed areas.
