The new incident is adding to a growing list of attacks on individuals connected to the Polish and Russian embassies in Moscow and Warsaw.

Ambassador Stefan Meller said Mark Rzeszuta, a second secretary working on economic issues, was attacked near the embassy and suffered suspected concussion.

Meller said he had informed his government of the incident and requested an urgent meeting with the Russian Foreign Ministry.

On 7 August, a Polish Embassy worker was severely beaten by two unidentified men. A Russian citizen working as a driver at the embassy was attacked on 5 August.

On July 31, three teenaged children of Russian diplomats in the Polish capital Warsaw and their friend from Kazakhstan were mugged and beaten by Polish youths.

That incident prompted an angry response from the Russian government. President Vladimir Putin complained about "an unfriendly act."
