Iraq Awaits Referendum Result Amid Violence

(epa)

25 October 2005 -- Iraq is expected to announce today final results in the 15 October constitutional referendum with all eyes turned to the Sunni-dominated northwestern province of Nineveh.

A two-thirds majority "no" vote in three of Iraq's provinces is sufficient to scuttle the draft constitution. Two provinces, Anbar and Salahuddin, have already rejected the text.

Meanwhile, deadly attacks by insurgents continued in Iraq. In the capital Baghdad, one civilian and a policeman were killed and another policeman was killed in the northern city of Mosul in shooting attacks.
