Fradkov met with Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, who said the two sides discussed and reached agreement on a wide range of issues. He said relations between the two nations are based on partnership and strategic cooperation.

The two former rivals have grown closer to counter what they see as American dominance on the world stage.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting in Moscow with Wen, hailed the development of bilateral ties and the growing clout of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, or SCO. The SCO is a regional security group dominated by Russia and China.

During his two-day visit to China, Fradkov is also expected to meet with President Hu Jintao.
