Kazakh Leader Arrives In Ukraine

November 17, 2005

17 November 2005 -- Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbaev has arrived in Ukraine for talks on energy cooperation.

Nazarbaev began his trip in the eastern city of Dneprodzerzhinsk, where he was greeted by Prime Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov. The two planned to visit the school where the Kazakh leader studied.

Nazarbaev is expected to arrive in the capital Kyiv later today, and to hold talks with President Viktor Yushchenko on 18 November.

Kazakhstan is hunting for new ways to export its oil reserves, while Ukraine is seeking to diversify its energy supplies and cement its position as a transit nation.
