Kyrgyz Security Council Meets Amid Security Overhaul

Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev on 8 February dismissed the deputy secretary of the Security Council, Vyacheslav Khan, and the first deputy chief of the National Security Service, Abdijalil Jamalov.
The Security Council oversees the army, police, and security agencies. Today's session is to deal with the issues of fighting corruption and organized crime, as well as Kyrgyzstan's penitentiary facilities, which saw a series of protests -- some of them bloody -- last year.
Kyrgyzstan's law enforcement agencies have been undergoing an overhaul since Prime Minister Feliks Kulov accused police and security forces of failing to do their jobs in January.
