Kidnappers Of U.S. Journalist Set Execution Date

10 February 2006 -- A Kuwaiti television channel says the captors of American journalist Jill Carroll, who was kidnapped last month in Iraq, are threatening to kill her unless their demands are met by 26 February.

The chairman of the Al-R'ay channel, Jassem Boudai, said sources close to the kidnappers have told the station that Carroll is being held in downtown Baghdad with a group of women.

The Kuwaiti station on 9 February broadcast a video of Carroll in which she urged her supporters to do whatever is necessary to secure her release.

The kidnappers, a group calling itself the Brigades of Vengeance, have demanded the release of all Iraqi women in custody in exchange for Carroll's freedom.

Carroll, a freelance journalist for the "Christian Science Monitor" newspaper, was abducted 7 January in Baghdad by armed men who shot dead her Iraqi interpreter.
