U.S. Releases 350 Detainees In Iraq

March 20, 2006 -- The U.S. military has released around 350 Iraqis it was holding in Iraq detention centers.

The military said in a statement the releases were recommended by a review committee, consisting of U.S. and Iraqi officials. The releases occurred on March 18.


The statement said all of the detainees were men.


AP reports that the joint committee has examined the cases of around 30,000 detainees since it was created in 2004 and recommended that about half of them be released.
