Schroeder Wins Court Order On Gazprom Job

April 3, 2006 -- Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has won a court victory against a rival politician who had been critical of Schroeder's involvement in a Russian-German gas-pipeline project.

The Hamburg state court today upheld an order forbidding Guido Westerwelle from suggesting publicly that Schroeder used his position as chancellor to win a job with Russia's state gas monopoly, Gazprom.

Schroeder left office in November, but has faced heavy criticism for accepting a job to head the Gazprom-led consortium with its $300,000 annual salary.
