April 21, 2006 -- Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and Iran's first female vice president, Massoumeh Ebtekar, are among seven environmental campaigners being awarded today as "Champions of the Earth."


The UN Environmental Program gives the annual awards to people or groups that show leadership in ecological issues.
