Al-Jazeera Airs New 'Al-Zawahri' Tape

June 9, 2006 -- Al-Jazeera television has broadcast what it says is a new videotape from the deputy leader of Al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahri.


On the tape, al-Zawahri purportedly calls on Palestinians to reject a proposed referendum on establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel.


An Al-Jazeera announcer said the tape was made before the announcement on June 8 of the death of Al-Qaeda's leader in Iraq, Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi.
