U.S. Senate Rejects Pullout From Iraq

June 15, 2006 -- The U.S. Senate has rejected a call for the withdrawal of U.S. combat forces from Iraq.

Under the proposal, which was voted down 93:6, some U.S. troops would remain in Iraq in 2007, but their sole role would be to provide critical backup for Iraqi security forces.
