19 June 2006 -- The daughter of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev today called upon all pro-presidential parties to join forces with her own political grouping, Asar (All Together!).

Addressing a conference in Almaty, Darigha Nazarbaeva said the time has come for a new party that would unite "all political, organizational, and intellectual resources of the country" in a bid to give Nazarbaev real support and become Kazakhstan's unrivaled governing party "for the next 50 years."

Nazarbaeva said the proposed party should be democratic and allow for debate among its various factions.

She said she would soon send her proposals to the leaders of Kazakhstan's other eight pro-presidential parties with a view to beginning political consultations.

Nazarbaeva, who is a member of parliament and reportedly has at least indirect control over a powerful media group, also said the composition of the government should reflect that of the legislature.
