Kyrgyz President Names New Minister, Raises Salaries

BISHKEK, July 3, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- At a session of Kyrgyzstan's presidential
administration today, President Kurmanbek Bakiev introduced Tynychbek
Tabyldiev as acting deputy prime minister, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reported.

Bakiev's move comes after the Kyrgyz parliament last week rejected Bakiev's nomination of Ishengul Boljurova for the same position.

Tabyldiev was previously the first deputy chief of the presidential administration. An official announcement of his new position is expected later today.

Meanwhile, the presidential press service said today that Bakiev has signed a decree increasing the pay for doctors and teachers by 20 percent.

The presidential press service cited Bakiev as saying salaries for doctors and teachers were increased by 15 percent last year and the president plans to continue giving annual salary increases to workers in those two sectors.

Doctors and teachers make an average monthly salary of $40-50.
