Two Sentenced To Death In Kyrgyzstan

July 17, 2006

Bayaman Erkinbaev (RFE/RL)

July 17, 2006 -- A regional court in Kyrgyzstan today sentenced two men to be shot for killing a member of parliament last year.

Makhmujan Ruzimetov and Sabyrkul Batyrov were found guilty of killing Bayaman Erkinbaev last September.

A spokesman for Kyrgyzstan's prosecutor general said the two men would be put on death row indefinitely as Kyrgyzstan has imposed a moratorium on the use of the death penalty.
