September 5, 2006 -- Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad has criticized the presence of secular teachers in the country's universities.

Speaking today during a meeting with a group of youths in Tehran, Ahmadinejad said some measures have been taken to change what he described as a secular education system. He added that such measures need to be expanded.

The Iranian president also said that students should protest against "liberal thoughts " and the "liberal economy."

In recent months, dozens of university professors have been forced to retire in Iran.

The measure led to protests among students who claimed it was politically motivated.
