Khatami Condemns Bin Laden, Praises Hizballah

September 11, 2006 -- Former Iranian President  Mohammad Khatami has condemned Osama bin Laden and suicide bombings, but defended groups such as the Lebanese Hizballah militia for resisting Israel.

Khatami made the remarks on September 10 during a speech at Harvard University, the latest stop of his visit to the United States.


Khatami also praised the concept of democracy but said U.S. politicians have been infatuated with "world domination" since World War II.

Iran Tightens Internet Control

Iranians are reporting that their access to Facebook and Internet-based e-mail sites like Gmail has been blocked, without any explanation from the government. Not even the strongest antifiltering programs have penetrated the firewall, they say.
