The presidential administration announced that Bakiev signed a decree transferring Interior Minister Murat Sutalinov to the head of the National Security Service (SNB).

The post of SNB chairman had been vacant since September 13, when Busurmankul Talaldiev resigned in the wake of an alleged antiopposition plot.

Bakiev today appointed Osmonaly Guronov, a specialist in fighting religious extremism, as acting interior minister. He also appointed Bakytbek Kalyev to head the agency responsible for the security of high state officials.

Also today, the Kyrgyz president accepted the resignation of Miroslav Niyazov, the secretary of his Security Council.
