Hussein Genocide Trial Adjourns For 10 Days

October 19, 2006 -- The trial of Iraq's former dictator Saddam Hussein and six codefendants facing charges of genocide adjourned today for a 10-day break.

The judge gave the defendants the right to contact their families and lawyers in the intervening period.


The break also coincides with the holiday ending the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.


Hussein and the others are on trial for the killing of 148 Shi'ite villagers in the 1980s.
