Iran Says Missile Tests Send 'Strong Signal' To U.S.

November 03, 2006

A Kowsar land-to-sea missile being tested at exercises in April (Fars)

November 3, 2006 -- Iran says it test-fired three new missiles on the second day of what it calls the Great Prophet 2 military exercises in the Persian Gulf and throughout the country.

A senior commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, Brigadier General Ali Fadavi, told state radio that the tests should send a strong message to the United States to cease military maneuvers in the area.

Fadavi said land-to-sea and sea-to-sea missiles -- dubbed Noor, Kowsar, and Nasr -- were successfully test-fired.

The tests come just four days after U.S.-led naval exercises concluded in the Persian Gulf area. Also taking part in the U.S.-led drill were military forces from Australia, Bahrain, Britain, France, and Italy.
