EU Condemns Jailing Of Belarusian Youth Activist

PRAGUE, November 9, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- The European Union has condemned the sentencing of a Belarusian youth opposition activist to 18 months in prison.

In a statement issued on November 8, the EU said the accusations against Zmitser Dashkevich were politically motivated and showed Belarusian authorities' unwillingness to respect international human rights standards.
