Russia To Introduce Women-Only Train Compartments

November 15, 2006

(ITAR-TASS)

November 15, 2006 -- Russian women tired of loud snoring and boorish men on overnight trains will be able to request women-only sleeping compartments, starting next year.

The newspaper "Rossiiskaya gazeta" says the service will start on January 15 on eight overnight-train lines connecting the main cities in western Russia.

The compartments will be an option in first- and second-class carriages, while third-class open-plan sleepers, known as "platskart" in Russian, will remain mixed.
