Brussels Hopes Poland Will Not Veto Russia Accord

November 17, 2006 -- The European Commission today said it hopes Poland will not use its veto to prevent the EU and Russia from replacing an EU-Russia partnership agreement due to expire next year.

Poland has said Russia must first lift a ban on imports of some Polish food.


Moscow says the ban was imposed because of health concerns.


Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen, whose country currently holds the EU's rotating presidency, is due in Warsaw on November 17 for talks aimed at settling the dispute.
