Kyrgyz, Belarusian Presidents Sign Treaties In Minsk

MINSK, November 27, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev held talks today in Minsk with his Belarusian counterpart, Alyaksandr Lukashenka, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reported.

Bakiev's spokesman, Nurlan Shakiev, told RFE/RL that the two leaders signed a series of cooperation treaties.


"After the meeting, there was a signing ceremony of several agreements on bilateral cooperation," he said. "These include important cooperation agreements in the spheres of education, science, industry, and trade."


Kyrgyzstan said on November 24 that it supports Belarus's bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO).


Bakiev will attend a CIS summit in Minsk on November 28.
