UN Says Hussein Trial Was Flawed

November 28, 2006 -- The United Nations says the trial of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein fell far short of international standards and that his detention was "arbitrary."

A working party of the UN Human Rights Council said today that Hussein's imprisonment is unlawful, but stopped short of calling for his release.


The group urged the Iraqi government not to carry out the death sentence that was handed down to Hussein.
