The explosions occurred in the Sadriya neighborhood near the commercial heart of the Iraqi capital.

Baghdad resident Khadum Sadun witnessed the attacks. "Three cars exploded," he said. "Two were in the Sadriya [neighborhood] and one was at al-Wathba Square in central Baghdad. And there are lots dead and wounded."

Meanwhile, the U.S. military says a U.S. soldier has been killed in fighting in Iraq's volatile Al-Anbar Governorate.

The soldier died on December 1 from wounds sustained due to enemy action in the insurgent stronghold, which stretches west from Baghdad to the Iraqi border with Syria.

Also today, a truck slammed into a bus stop south of Baghdad, killing about 20 people.
