Azerbaijan Activists Call For Probe Of Attack On Journalist

December 27, 2006 -- An Azerbaijani media-freedom watchdog has urged the country's authorities to quickly investigate the beating of an opposition journalist.

The December 26 call by the Media Council of Azerbaijan came a day after Nicat Huseynov, a journalist with the opposition newspaper "Azadliq" (Freedom), was hospitalized after being beaten by four assailants in Baku.

Two other reporters for the same newspaper were attacked this year. One of them was killed.
