Kazakhstan Ready To Aid Kyrgyz Earthquake Victims
December 29, 2006 -- The Almaty administration today said it is prepared to render aid to victims of the earthquake in Kyrgyzstan earlier this week.
Baurzhan Iskakov, the Almaty city director of the department for emergency situations, said there are agreements between the two countries that call mutual assistance in case of natural disasters.
The magnitude 7.0 earthquak hit on December 26 in Kyrgyzstan's northeastern Kochkor region, not far from the Kazakh border, damaging several thousand homes and other buildings.
