January 20, 2007 -- Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek today said the United States wants Czech Republic to host part of a controversial missile defense system.

Topolanek said Washington wants to build a radar base in the country as part of the system.

U.S. officials have been negotiating with Poland and the Czech Republic to host the anti-missile system, which Russia has criticized as a "destabilizing" move.
