Uzbekistan Jails Hizb Ut-Tahrir Member

March 15, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- A court in Uzbekistan has sentenced an Uzbek man to 5 1/2 years in prison after convicting him of belonging to the banned Islamist Hizb ut-Tahrir group, RFE/RL Uzbek Service reported.


Rustam Muminov was deported to Uzbekistan from Russia last October. He was wanted in his home country for allegedly taking part in violence during protests in the eastern city of Andijon in May 2005.
