April 29, 2007

(epa)

April 29, 2007 -- The U.S. military says its troops captured 72 suspected insurgents and seized bomb-making materials in a series of overnight raids in Iraq.

A statement says the operations took place in the provinces of Al-Anbar and Salahaddin, north and west of Baghdad. Among the captured are 36 suspects with alleged links to Al-Qaeda in the city of Samarra.

Additionally, the Iraqi Defense Ministry said the Iraqi army had killed two insurgents and arrested 112 others during the last 24 hours in different parts of Iraq.

Meanwhile, well-known Iraqi journalist Amal al-Mudarress was seriously wounded by gunmen who shot her near her house in western Baghdad, police and hospital sources reported.

And in northern Baghdad, at least seven Katyusha rockets landed near a Sunni mosque in the Al-Adhamiya district, killing two guards and wounding seven others on April 28, police said.
