Russian Journalists Union Protests Eviction Order

May 17, 2007

(RFE/RL)

May 17, 2007 -- Russia's journalists union is protesting an order from the authorities to vacate their office in Moscow so it can be occupied by a Kremlin-backed television station.

The Russian Union of Journalists says it received a letter from the federal estate agency asking it to move out of their office by May 18.

The union was given the office by late Russian President Boris Yeltsin in the 1990s. The union plans to take legal action against the eviction.
