Uzbekistan To Increase Wages, Pensions By 25 Percent

TASHKENT, July 12, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- Uzbekistan has announced a 25 percent increase in pensions and public-sector wages.


The presidential press service said social benefits and student grants would also be increased by 25 percent as of August 1.


The minimum wage will be about $12 a month and the minimum pension $24 beginning from August 1.


Wages last went up in Uzbekistan in November, when they were raised 20 percent.
