Tehran Rejects U.S. Charges It Is Destabilizing Iraq

August 11, 2007 -- Iran today rejected U.S. suggestions that Tehran is working against stability in Iraq.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said "the insecurity in Iraq is the result of the wrong policy and incorrect decisions by the United States."


U.S. President George W. Bush on August 9 warned Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki against becoming too close to Iran amid al-Maliki's three-day visit to Tehran this week.

Iran Tightens Internet Control

Iranians are reporting that their access to Facebook and Internet-based e-mail sites like Gmail has been blocked, without any explanation from the government. Not even the strongest antifiltering programs have penetrated the firewall, they say. Some speculate the move is related to Iran's plan to launch a national internet, which might sever Iranians' ability to access the World Wide Web. More
