70 Dead In Fighting In Northwest Pakistan

October 07, 2007

October 7, 2007 -- Pakistani officials say at least 70 militants and Pakistani soldiers have been killed in two separate battles in the country's northwest.

Pakistani Army spokesman General Waheed Arshad said 50 militants and 20 government soldiers died in the clashes in North Waziristan, near the Afghan border.

Arshad said government forces launched a raid, backed by helicopter gunships, hours after militants ambushed Pakistani forces on October 6.
