EU's New Kosovo Envoy Says Serb-Albanian Divide Remains Biggest Challenge

The European Union's new special representative to Kosovo says integrating ethnic Serbs in the territory's north will be the biggest challenge as he seeks to bring Kosovo closer to the EU.

Samuel Zbogar, who moves into the post while continuing to serve as foreign minister of Slovenia, told his country's STA news agency the EU needs to "tackle" the fear and resentment that continues to divide Kosovo's ethnic Albanian and Serb communities nearly four years after the territory declared independence from Serbia.

Continued ethnic unrest has been reported in Kosovo, particularly at its border crossings with Serbia.

Zbogar says 70 million euros ($92 million) in EU funds have been set aside for developing state institutions in Kosovo, and talks on an EU-Kosovo trade agreement are due to start soon.

The Serbs living in Kosovo are already an integral part of Serbia. What the upside-down EU and their envoys are annoyingly trying to do is to disintegrate the Serbs from their motherland Serbia.

Instead of bringing the Albanians closer to the EU, the EU have transparently set their mind on the territory of Kosovo, which, according to the UNSCR 1244 is an inalienable part of Serbia. If any changes are to be made, they should be made peacefully in that direction, and not with bad intentions towards the constituent part of Serbia who do not want to secede.

It is the Kosovo Albanians who seem to be seceding from the rest of the world, despite the fact that they have their country of origin - Albania.

And just where do the falling from grace leaders of the EU want to get with their hallucinating, smokefull, and criminal policies? If only they could put in order their mentally sick NGOs located in Belgrade. Why, Pristina is not good enough for them?

By your comments I really have to question if either vn or Francios have ever been to Kosova? Ever been in battle? Ever lost a commrad or family member in battle or as the result of butchering paramilitary thugs?

It is easy to fight for what one believes is right from the comfort of your computer safely tucked away in your little nest, far, far from the actual battleground. But I can tell you firsthand that the knowledge and perspective gained from actual combat for what one believes surpasses all those who preach from their safe little pulpits.

When the Munje came to our little village in the middle of the night there was no time for such introspection and debate. In an instance my wife, brother, brother in-law and all our children were gone. Dead.

I take little comfort in the fact that the person responsible, Nebosja Minic, died a coward's death, rife with venerial disease, in a country for from the one he destroyed.

Alas, I know the truth, despite how much others try to distort it.

vn from Albania, your story is so sad.
How many Albanians in Kosovo speak perfectly fluent English?
And how many Serbs were butchered by Albanians?
And how many by NATO's cluster bombs?
And how many were killed for their organs?
And how do Albanians finance their US lobbying efforts?
And what are the Albanians going to do once the Americans figure they can't keep financing Bondsteel?

Francois,

vn from Albania, your story is so sad.: I recognize sarcasm, may God bless your pathetic soul.

How many Albanians in Kosovo speak perfectly fluent English?: Is it a crime to be multi-lingual?

And how many Serbs were butchered by Albanians?: These supposed acts would have been reciprocal, no?

And how many by NATO's cluster bombs?: Again, reciprocal for Serb aggression.

And how many were killed for their organs?: Really? You're going with this myth? Pretty much invalidates any of your points/opinions.

And how do Albanians finance their US lobbying efforts?: We do not need to finance our lobbying efforts as the US recognizes injustice.

And what are the Albanians going to do once the Americans figure they can't keep financing Bondsteel?: Do you really want to go there?

I noticed you didn't mention your military service or combat experiences, but then again you are a Frenchman so that is understandable.

VN from Albania:

Albanians were the agressor since it is imposible for Serbs to do an agression on their own land.

Also, there is nothing reciprocal in the "Panda bar massacre" where Albanian KLA terrorists killed three kids for their Serbian nationality. Also 9 children were killed by KLA terrorists (out of ten) while playing fitsal (small football as we call it) wich is why the national team of Serbia is wearing shirts with their names in the upcoming Euro tournament in Croatia.

SerbNik,

Perhaps you needs some clarity on the definition of the term or word reciprocal?

The killing of six young Serbs in an attack on the Panda coffee bar in Peć was revenge for the killing of 64 KLA members AND their families a few days earlier.

The Panda Bar incident led to an immediate crackdown on the Albanian-populated southern quarters of Peć (Kapešnica and Zatra). The area was sealed off, and houses were searched systematically. Media reports stated that Serbian police killed twelve Kosovo Albanians during the operation.

Your facts are as distorted as your views.

No, your views are rather demented. You actualy support killing of six children as revenge to SOLDIERS? (No source, claim or court has mentioned their families) and there was no crackdown by Serbs on Albanians anywhere, that is another one of the lies your people brainwash you with same as that theory that you originate from Illyrians and that there was never any Serbian state, kingdom or empire,it was all "Albanian"...

No proof,just lies.

P.S. Did anyone ever see or hear about Albanian sportmen(woman - if they have that right in Albania), writters, scientists?

Serbia is top knoch in all of them wich is why no one takes those lies of your seriously and know we're saying the truth.

Thaci to prison Albanians back to Albania (60% of the are illegaly in Kosovo living in houses and apartments of killed and ethnicly cleansed Serbs,Jews and Roma.

Of course, the whole point from the start was to create a frozen conflict which would give NATO a good reason to keep troops on the ground. Resolving the conflict would take that reason away... and could even end up pitting the Albanians against NATO, which would be seen as a useless occupying force.

To: vn / Albania

vn/Albania I understand your personal anger. However, with all your pride and self-righteous indignation, would you be able to describe the following terms: Albanian mafia, drugs, arms smuggling, prostitution, money-laundering, Switzerland, murdering the Serbs, causing atrocities - by any other definition except myth?

vn,

Through our correspondence via RFL I feel we've connected and have somewhat of a mutual understanding of each other's points of view and a modicum of civility.

All of the things you mentioned: mafia, drugs, arms smuggling, prostitution, money-laundering, Switzerland, murdering the other peoples from the former Yugoslavia, causing atrocities -- these are not attributed to Serbian gangsters as well? Arkan ring a bell?

The nickname you mentioned, just like the "snake", has a heritage connected with Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro, Yugoslavia, Netherlands, France, if I'm not mistaken. So, the word can also go into the myth department?

Somehow, for the past decade most intensively, I've been under the impression that Kosovo Albanians do not care so much about the law and order, as they would like to see the territory of Kosovo under the Albanian flag. I believe such are the news headlines these days, in 2012.

Would you call the KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army) a paramilitary formation or a regular army of Serbia (former Yugoslavia)? Its troops are mostly criminals from Albania, and not the native, lawabiding Albanians from Kosovo.

All crimes by all sides must be accounted for, documented and those responsible charged, tried and convicted if proven guilty.
Peace must prevail, Kosovo will remain an independent European country, and no amount of rhetoric will change these facts. Saying "Kosovo is Serbia" for example is as helpful and constructive as saying "the world is square'. Get over yourselves and show us, the rest of the world, the you can all behave in a civilised manner.

vn feom Albania : "Bondsteel?: Do you really want to go there?"

Judging by US finances and the coming (imminent) collapse of the USD, I think we're gonna be there sooner than you think.

What exactly is the point you want to make about France or French men?
