U.S. 'Concern' At Karabakh Tensions

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has warned that tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh could escalate into a much broader conflict.

Azerbaijani military officials say a mine explosion along the border between Azerbaijan and its separatist ethnic Armenian Nagorno-Karabakh region severely injured two Azerbaijani officers.

Officials said one of the officers lost his leg in the blast on June 11, while the other's arm had to be amputated.

The incident was reported as the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said its positions along the Nagorno-Karabakh separation line came under 24-hour shelling by Armenian armed forces.

No casualties were reported.

There was no word on the Azerbaijani reports from the Armenian Karabakh side.

At least nine soldiers on both sides were killed in shootouts along the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and Nagorno-Karabakh border last week in a surge of tensions over the unresolved decades-old conflict, which has been simmering since a 1994 cease-fire.

More lies from Azerbaijan. Last think Armenia needs to do is strike at Azeri positions and augment hostilities which are in no way in favour of Armenia. The truth is probably the Azeris are trying to cut corners when it comes to mine safety, which caused the explosion and are not looking for someone to blame to cover their shortfalls.

Hillary gave her approval to kill more Christians, on her recent visit to Azerbajstan. Which is why Muslim Azeris started firing on Christian Armenians. Hillary regrets she did not do more to kill Christians in Bosnia and Kosovo and in Syria

How do you know it was the Muslim Azeris firing on Christian Armenians? Maybe it was the Christian Azeris firing on Muslim Armenians or the Taoist Armenians firing on Budhist Azeris?
For the last 20 years the Armenian side has been making pathetic attempts to turn an ethnic conflict into a religious one and gather sympathies in West. They seem to forget that what might have worked in World War One may not work in 21st century.

That's not true that there are no Armenian Muslims, I've me one in Russia, he was pretty respected in the Muslim community there, led their prayers etc. And there are whole communities of Muslim Armenians in Eastern Turkey even today.
But that's inconsequential, what the anon author above means is that how do you know about the religious convictions of the Armenian soldier and Azerbaijani soldier in trenches shooting at each other. Are they shooting because the opposing guy has a different faith or because of their ethnicities. I think that the latter is true. This conflict probably would still have occurred even if both sides belonged to the same religon, as we saw in Georgia, who just like Russians are Orthodox Christians.
So the final word, Karabakh conflict is an ethnic, not a religious conflict.

Suren-jan,

You are right, this conflict is not religious as there are plenty of Armenian and Turk protestants, Buddhists, atheists, etc.

But you are also wrong as it is not ethnic. There is no Azeri ethnicity yet, it is in early formation stages and it is not anti-Armenian as the majority of it's components are non-Turkic peoples of Azerbaijan like Tolysh, Lezgi, Udin, Tat, etc.

The conflict is CIVILIZATIONAL! On one hand, you have a civilization of Armenians who lived on their lands since Noah's times, cultivated and nourished their Motherland and never moved outside of their habitat and their ancestors' graves.

On the other hand, you have a civilization of Turkic speaking nomads, who originated from the Altai mountains of Siberia and gradually migrated through Central Asia following their herds of sheep all the way to Europe destroying ancient civilizations on their way. Any land they step on they call their land. Anyone who lives there and is not a Turk is killed, anything that does not fit their nomadic lifestyle on the lands they acquire is destroyed or renamed in Turkic manner. This happens everywhere from Constantinople to Uighur province in China. They don't care about religions, ethnicity, race, language, etc. - they are nomads who only destroyed and never created anything on this planet.

I think it is a really racist approach to say that. Both ethnicities have great cultures and none is superior or inferior to another. They should find a way to live together, being able to do that is the real hight level of civilization.
