BAKU -- A well-known activist from Azerbaijan's opposition Popular Front Party (AXCP) is missing.

AXCP spokesman Natiq Adilov wrote on Facebook that Turkel Azerturk had been missing since late afternoon on March 5.

Azerturk's brother, Eltac Aliyev, told RFE/RL on March 6 that the activist disappeared after an unknown woman telephoned him and asked for a meeting to help her send food to a jailed AXCP member.

Aliyev said that he and other relatives had reported Azerturk's disappearance to the police.

In the last several days, five members of AXCP have been jailed for terms of between 15 and 20 days for resisting police.
