Azerbaijan Arrests Former Deputy Defense Minister On Corruption Charges


BAKU -- A former Azerbaijani deputy defense minister, Mehman Salimov, has been arrested on corruption charges.

Media reports in Azerbaijan on November 25 cited the Prosecutor-General's Office as saying that Salimov is suspected of abuse of power and misuse or embezzlement of state finances.

No more details have been provided.

Salimov was a deputy defense minister between 1995 and 1999.

He was responsible for political and social issues in the Defense Ministry.
