British police have announced that an autopsy has found the death of Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky to be "consistent with hanging.”

A police statement said the postmortem examination “found nothing to indicate a violent struggle.”

However, the Thames Valley Police did not specify whether Berezovsky hanged himself.

Police say further tests, including toxicology examinations, will be carried out and it could take weeks for those results to be known.

Berezovsky, a Russian-born billionaire oligarch and critic of President Vladimir Putin, was found dead March 23 at his home in Ascot, near London.

Some associates of Berezovsky, who was 67, have suggested he may have been depressed at the time of his death because of a series of setbacks.

Based on reports from Reuters, AP, and AFP

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
