Blast Rocks Kabul Airport

A suicide bomber attacked a convoy of foreign troops near the international airport in the Afghan capital, Kabul, on December 11.

An Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman told RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan that the blast caused no casualties.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was a suicide bombing against foreign forces.

The airport is home to one of the NATO-led command's most important bases, the Joint Command of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), which is responsible for the day-to-day management of the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan.

Analysts say attacks on the heavily guarded airport are relatively rare and the facility represents an ambitious target for insurgents.
