Bomb Kills Afghan Intelligence Official In Northern City

A car bomb has killed an intelligence official in Afghanistan's northern city of Konduz.

A provincial spokesman said Payenda Khan, an official in Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security, was killed on August 4 when a bomb planted in his car exploded.

Three children were also wounded. The killing came two days after suicide bombers on August 2 attacked a guesthouse in Konduz, killing four Afghan security guards employed by a German company.

The north of Afghanistan has traditionally been more secure than the south and the east, but a series of recent attacks and assassinations has raised fears about its stability.
