SARAJEVO -- Bosnian officials and ordinary citizens have laid flowers at a memorial in the Markale market in Sarajevo to commemorate the 20th anniversary of a wartime massacre.

On February 5, 1994, during the siege of the Bosnian capital by Serb forces, shells hit the crowded market, killing 68 civilians and wounding 144.

Hundreds of people gathered at the Markale market in the Bosnian capital to commemorate the victims.

The former commander of the Sarajevo-Romanija Corps, Stanislav Galic is serving a life term for the Markale shelling.

Responsibility for the Sarajevo massacre is among charges against Bosnian Serb military and political leaders Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic, who are currently on trial at the Hague Tribunal.
