MONDAY, December 13:

Afghanistan: German Defense Minister Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg is in Afghanistan on an unannounced visit.

EU: Eastern Partnership ministerial meeting opens in Brussels.

Russia: North Korean Foreign Minister Pak Ui Chun visits Moscow, holds talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.


TUESDAY, December 14:

Balkans: The World Bank convenes an international conference on Poverty and Social Inclusion in the Western Balkans in Brussels (to December 15).


WEDNESDAY, December 15:

Balkans: Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina get Schengen visa-free access.

Moldova: Recount of the votes cast by voters in the November 28 parliamentary elections is scheduled.

Russia: Russian Union of Journalists holds its annual remembrance day for slain Russian journalists.

Russia: Verdict of court case against former Yukos CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky and his business partner Platon Lebedev to be announced.

Ukraine: Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych visits Latvia (to December 16).

World: Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to be presented in Strasbourg.


THURSDAY, December 16:

Russia: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin hosts his annual marathon phone-in with the Russian people.

Georgia/Russia: New round of talks between Georgia and Russia under the sponsorship of the EU, the OSCE, and the UN begins in Geneva.


FRIDAY, December 17:

Armenia: New mayor of Yerevan is expected to be elected.

Russia: Test firing of Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missile is scheduled.


SATURDAY, December 18:

Pakistan: Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao visits Islamabad.

UN: International Migrants Day.


SUNDAY, December 19:

Belarus: Presidential election.

Russia: Latvian President Valdis Zatlers visits Moscow (to December 21).
