MONDAY, October 8:

Afghanistan: International Crisis Group (ICG) publishes a new report on Afghanistan.

Armenia: Brussels hosts the 13th Armenia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee meeting.

Georgia: Georgian Dream coalition leader and presumptive new prime minister Bidzina Ivanishvili names candidates for his cabinet.

Iraq/Russia: Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki visits Moscow (to October 10).

Russia/Germany: Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov pays an official visit to Germany.

Turkmenistan/Switzerland: Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov begins a working visit to Switzerland.

World: The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2012 to be announced in Stockholm.


TUESDAY, October 9:

Bosnia-Herzegovina/Pakistan: The chairman of Bosnia's Presidency, Bakir Izetbegovic, visits Islamabad.

EU: The European Parliament Foreign Affairs and Development committees vote on three finalists of the 2012 Sakharov Prize for freedom of thought.

EU/Turkmenistan: The European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights hosts a discussion on Turkmenistan.

IMF: International Monetary Fund releases its World Economic Outlook and Fiscal Monitor.

IMF/World Bank: The annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank begin in Tokyo (to October 14).

Kazakhstan/Russia: Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev pays an official visit to Moscow.

NATO: Meetings of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) at the level of defense ministers to be held in Brussels (to October 10).

Pakistan: International Crisis Group (ICG) publishes a new report on Pakistan.

Serbia/Italy: Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic pays an official visit to Rome.

UN: World Post Day.

World: The Nobel Prize in Physics 2012 to be announced in Stockholm.


WEDNESDAY, October 10:

EU: The EU Commission adopts its annual strategy document explaining its policy on EU enlargement.

IMF: International Monetary Fund releases its Global Financial Stability Report (GFSR).

Kyrgyzstan: Kyrgyzstan hosts a conference on Islam and Orthodox Christianity.

Russia: Moscow City Court considers an appeal by prominent opposition figure and anticorruption blogger Aleksei Navalny in a defamation case.  

Russia: A Moscow court holds an appeal hearing in the case of the punk protest band Pussy Riot.

WHO: World Mental Health Day.

World: The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2012 to be announced in Stockholm.

World: International Day Against the Death Penalty.


THURSDAY, October 11:

Armenia/Azerbaijan/Georgia: Tbilisi hosts the ninth OSCE South Caucasus Media Conference (to October 12).

EU/Serbia/Kosovo: EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fuele visits Serbia and Kosovo (to October 12).

Iraq/Czech Republic: Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki is scheduled to visit Prague (to October 12).

Kazakhstan/Turkey: Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev pays an official visit to Turkey.

Moldova/Russia: Russian-Moldovan Business Forum opens in Moscow (to October 14).

Russia: A Russian court holds hearings into the lawsuit against pop diva Madonna.

Russia/Georgia: The next round of the Geneva talks between Georgia and Russia to be held in Switzerland.

Ukraine: The 10th International Orthodox Film Festival "Pokrov" opens in Kyiv (to October 14).

Uzbekistan/Azerbaijan: Uzbek President Islam Karimov pays an official visit to Baku (to October 12).

WHO: World Sight Day.

World: The Nobel Prize in Literature 2012 to be announced in Stockholm.

EU/Russia: European Union foreign ministers meet with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Luxembourg.

Russia: Regional elections.

Russia: Moscow hosts the World Economic Forum Moscow meeting.

Russia/Turkey: High Level Russia-Turkey Cooperation Council meeting opens in Ankara (to October 15).
