Car Bomb Targets Security Vehicle In Southwestern Pakistan

A car bomb in southwestern Pakistan has killed at least three and injured at least 16 people.

Police said the attack took place when a vehicle carrying soldiers from the paramilitary Frontier Corps was passing through a bazar in Quetta, the capital of southwestern Baluchistan Province.

One soldier and two civilians were killed. Most of the injured were civilians.

Police said the bomb was planted in a car parked along the road and apparently detonated by remote control.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Mineral-rich Baluchistan has been the scene of a low-scale insurgency for years.

Rebels often attack security forces and officials to pressure the government into allocating to the province more wealth from its natural resources.

Based on reporting by AP, AFP, and dpa

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
