Police In China Rule Activist's Death A Suicide

Chinese police have issued a determination that political activist Li Wangyang's death on June 6 was a suicide.

Activists with the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements in China issued a statement saying they "don't accept the verdict."

The official report determinted that Li, who was in a hospital at the time of his death being treated for heart disease and diabetes, used a bed sheet to hang himself from a window bar.

Relatives have stated that the 62-year-old labor activist had never talked about suicide, despite his illness and his more than 20 years in Chinese labor camps.

Human Rights Watch says relatives found Li's body strung up to a windowsill by a bandage with his feet on the ground.

Li was under constant surveillance while in the hospital.
