Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang is scheduled to visit Russia this month as part of a European tour.

China’s official Xinhua news agency reported on October 4 that more than 30 agreements on finance, energy, and high-speed rail cooperation would be signed during Li's visit to Russia.

Li is expected to travel to Moscow on October 13, after attending an Asia-Europe Meeting summit in Italy and visiting Germany as part of his European tour starting next week.

The trip comes as the Chinese territory of Hong Kong has been rocked by pro-democracy demonstrations, and also as the European Union steps up sanctions on Russia over its actions in Ukraine.

China and Russia have close economic and diplomatic links, and Beijing has said it won’t not take sides with the West or Russia over Ukraine.

Based on reporting by Reuters and TASS

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
